Ghost of the man without fear I

Giraldo Giraldes «Sem Pavor (Without fear)», as he was called – who doesn’t know him?! -, gave us Yebora forever, in the distant autumn 1165…There was a time when Giraldo was really a without fear warrior that show the power by the strength of his sword. Today, despite of all surronds of his character (there was in the political and social lines people who call him a barbarian or bandit) it is assumed Giraldo was a magnificient leader of men. But his services were not only provided to the small nascent kingdom but fundamentally to all peninsular Christendom, since the sole purpose of his life was fighting the Almohad Moors. He devasting in diabolical raids the Muslim territory and penetrating without fear in places where only armies would usually go. According to contemporary historical sources of his life, he was considered one of the outstanding ambush strategists. Giraldo, the «dog», is how the terrified Muslims negligibly called him. In the Muslim world to call someone a dog is, still today, the greatest offense that can be done, but the legend of the man with the name of the principal Square of Évora (Giraldo Square) have more to say…don’t miss the next episode…

Adaptation by Fernanda Frazão in Curiosities of Évora.
